Studies have shown that proteins that synthesize, bind, and degrade endocannabinoids are present in the body’s sperm factories, which suggests that the use of cannabis may directly affect them. Although the endocannabinoid system has been mostly explored in the brain, studies have shown that it is present in other parts and systems as well including the reproductive system.

I have learnt that the endocannabinoid system is not only characterized in the brain but other parts and systems of the body as well including the reproductive system more specifically cannabinol 2-AG and the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 which has been detected in human sperm.

As recreational and medicinal cannabis becomes legal in more countries, it could spread awareness on the potential risks of the drug on different systems found in our body.

The interaction between cannabis and the reproductive system has shown to decrease levels of sperm for those who partake in using the drug.

People should still be aware of the effects of cannabis despite more and more countries legalizing the drug recreationally and medicinally. Although cannabis has many benefits and is definitely less harmful than any schedule 1 drugs. The drug still has potential effects for those who do not need the drug for medicinal purposes and should always be used at moderation. As proven from the tests, people who smoke cannabis have lower sperm than those who do not which is one of the few potential risks of partaking in the drug.
